Despite the fresh additions, they started with a 1-2 loss to Aston Villa. However, they bounced back with a 2-0 away win against Crystal Palace and also narrowly defeated Bournemouth 1-0 in the League Cup.

Manchester City didn’t spend much over the summer. Last season, the Citizens added the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup to their trophy cabinet. Most importantly, they won the Premier League title, finishing just two points ahead of Arsenal. However, they lost to Real Madrid on penalties in the Champions League and later fell to Manchester United in the FA Cup final. The reigning champions then secured comfortable victories over Chelsea (2-0) and Ipswich Town (4-1). Against Ipswich, their only significant summer signing, Savio, played well, while İlkay Gündoğan, who returned from Barcelona, came off the bench.
West Ham last took points from City back in May of the previous season. Since then, the Citizens have won all four subsequent matches. The visitors are clearly stronger and should prove it. Therefore, with all due respect to the solid Hammers, I recommend betting on an away win for the champions with a -1.5 goal handicap.
