West Ham take on the visitors Brentford in the round 1/8-finals of English FA Cup. The match will be played on Monday, March 9th at London Stadium (London).
West Ham themselves laid the foundation for many of their problems when in 2024 they decided to part ways with David Moyes, who had even won the Europa Conference League, in favor of the younger and supposedly more modern Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard failed, and six months later he was replaced by Graham Potter. Potter managed to prevent relegation last spring, but the new campaign also started poorly. Recently the team has looked somewhat more competitive, managing to collect a few important points and gradually climbing away from the most dangerous positions. However, stability is still lacking, and good performances are often followed by disappointing ones. The current manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, also struggled for a while, although by the end of winter the team noticeably improved. They did lose heavily to Liverpool, 2–5. But afterward they defeated neighboring Fulham away from home, 1–0. In the cup, meanwhile, the opposition has been extremely modest so far — first Queens Park Rangers, and then even Burton Albion.

Brentford will also clearly keep the Premier League as their priority. The Bees have actually been a pleasant surprise this season. Last year they already finished in a respectable 10th place for a relatively recent newcomer to the league. In the summer it seemed they had lost all their key advantages — Thomas Frank, who had been building the team for years since the Championship, departed, and a couple of productive attackers also left. Nevertheless, the team has managed to maintain a high level of play and continues to collect points regularly against a variety of opponents. Their recent results show that they are capable of staying competitive in the race for the upper half of the table. It turned out that Andrews has been coping well in the managerial role, and overall the team has been producing strong results — not only better than in 2024/2025, but even at the level of clubs fighting for European places. They did lose to Brighton in February after a confident run. The match with Burnley was also difficult, but they still managed to win it, albeit narrowly, 4–3. Against Bournemouth, however, they unexpectedly settled for a pragmatic 0–0 draw. In the cup they also faced very modest opponents — Sheffield Wednesday, struggling with financial issues, and the heroic but still semi-professional Macclesfield, who had previously knocked out Crystal Palace.
The Bees have won four of the last six meetings, including the two most recent ones, with only one defeat. The situation in the Premier League is simply easier for the Bees, as they are not fighting for survival. Therefore, the pick is for Brentford to win with a draw no bet option.
Prediction for the match: Brentford to win with 0.0 handicap.
