Wales vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Prediction 26 March 2026

Wales take on the visitors Bosnia & Herzegovina in semifinal match of FIFA World Cup promotion. The match will be played on Thursday, March 26th at Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff).

Wales have been regular participants in major tournaments in recent years. They even finally qualified for the last World Cup — which became the final tournament for their long-time leader, Bale. Still, even without Gareth, they continue, more or less, to get the job done. They missed out on the Euros before last only because they lost the decisive playoff on penalties to Poland and the experienced Szczęsny. But in the Nations League, they managed at the last moment to overtake Turkey and win their group. In the 2025 qualification campaign, they performed largely as expected — losing only to Belgium twice and finishing second behind them. Their recent form again confirms that Wales are extremely pragmatic and know how to grind out points even in tight, low-scoring matches.

Bosnia and Herzegovina may finally return to a major tournament. The “Dragons” have a number of well-known names in their squad, led by Džeko. But throughout their independence, they have only once played at a World Cup — in Brazil. And how many times have they fallen short in the playoffs since then! For example, last time they lost rather tamely to Ukraine before the Euros. After that, they finished last in their Nations League group — although they were competing against top-level opposition in that cycle. Things went better in last year’s traditional qualification campaign: on the one hand, they still lost the battle for first place to Austria, but on the other, they won all their remaining matches, including two victories over direct rivals Romania. Only in Cyprus did they slip up, drawing 2-2, but even that did not prevent them from securing second place. Their latest performances suggest Bosnia can be effective going forward, but they still lack stability over a longer stretch of matches.

There have been four meetings in total — with draws alternating with wins for Bosnia. On both occasions, they achieved a “grandmaster” result of 2-0 in their favor. It is about time Wales finally get a win in this matchup. The pick is for them to take an important victory in Cardiff.

Prediction for the match: Wales to win.
