Villarreal take on the visitors Betis in the round 9 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Saturday, October 18th at Estadio de la Ceramica (Villarreal).
Villarreal has already played successfully under this coach in the past. The reunion took place midway through the season before last, which at that point was going disastrously. Back then, it wasn’t enough to completely turn things around, and their usual European qualification spot was lost. However, in the 2024/2025 campaign, Villarreal managed to finish inside the top five of La Liga with 70 points — level with Athletic. That was enough to bring them back into the Champions League, though their performance there has been mixed so far. They suffered a loss to Tottenham due to a goalkeeper’s error, but later grabbed a late 2–2 draw with Juventus thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer. In La Liga, however, they’re averaging two points per match (five wins, with losses only to Atlético and Real Madrid), sitting comfortably in third place. Villarreal’s attacking line has been particularly sharp, consistently delivering goals. The team’s balance and confidence under Marcelino suggest they could once again challenge for a top-four finish this season.

Betis is showing solid football this autumn. The “Cucumbers” have been under the same coach, Manuel Pellegrini, for quite some time. Last season went very well — they finished sixth in La Liga with 60 points and reached the UEFA Conference League final. This year started slowly, but they’ve gradually regained form this autumn — and it certainly helped that they managed to complete the permanent signing of Antony from Manchester United on deadline day. In the Europa League, the Spaniards drew 2–2 with Nottingham Forest and then beat Ludogorets away in Razgrad. In La Liga, three consecutive victories have lifted them up to fourth place. Naturally, their aim now is to solidify that top-four position. Betis’ creative midfield, led by Antony and Isco, is producing plenty of chances, while the defense looks more organized compared to early-season struggles. Confidence is growing, and the team seems capable of competing toe-to-toe even with the strongest sides in Spain.
In the past two seasons, these sides have exchanged away victories. In their last nine encounters, only one ended in a draw — both teams have won four times each. The Submarines are clear favorites right now. However, the visitors are also in good form — the best value may be in the “both teams to score” market.
Prediction for the match: Both teams to score – yes.
