Viktoria Plzen take on the visitors Sparta Prague in the Czech MOL Cup final. The match will be played on Wednesday, April 22nd at Doosan Arena (Plzen).
Viktoria Plzeň showed expected performance. Viktorka have had a strong stretch in their history, managing to win their debut championship in 2011 and securing another five titles in the following ten seasons. However, the capital duo is now dominating Czech football again. In the previous round, the Prague giants pushed the Plzeň representative to third place in the final standings, and now they are once again contending for the trophy amongst themselves. Koubek's men have long fallen hopelessly behind both Sparta and Slavia. Nonetheless, they have pulled away from the rest of the division, having secured the bronze long ago. This allowed them to focus on other tournaments, where they performed well. The Red and Blues reached the quarterfinals of the Conference League, only losing to Fiorentina in extra time after a couple of draws. Now, they are also in the final of the national cup, a competition they last won in 2010, and have since lost twice in the decisive match.

Sparta Prague, despite being an undisputed historical football giant in the Czech Republic and Central Europe, has been unable to secure their 34th championship title since 2014, with only one cup win in that period. They now have a chance to complete the double, having defeated their neighbor and main rival 3-2 away in the quarterfinals.
