Union Berlin take on the visitors Werder Bremen in the round 25 match of German Bundesliga. The match will be played on Sunday, March 8th at Stadion An der Alten Försterei (Berlin).
Union Berlin have given their supporters plenty of emotions in recent years. First came their debut in the Bundesliga and steady progress there, eventually reaching the Champions League. However, after playing in that tournament, the 2023/2024 campaign ended with relegation playoffs. Fortunately for them, they won there and stayed in the top division of German football. Moreover, last spring they collected exactly 40 points and finished in 13th place. This season they have looked somewhat more stable overall and have managed to stay clear of the relegation battle for most of the campaign. Even though their results have fluctuated, the team still tends to perform confidently at home. Now they are even hoping to improve on last year’s result. True, while in the first half of the season they managed to stay in the upper part of the table, in 2026 they stopped winning matches. That made the 1–0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the penultimate round all the more surprising. Yet after that unexpected win, they lost by the reverse scoreline in Monchengladbach.

Werder Bremen have clearly lost ground recently. The Green-Whites finally reminded everyone of themselves in the 2024/2025 season, seriously fighting for a return to European competitions. Back then they collected the same 51 points as RB Leipzig, but still handed over 7th place due to tiebreakers. Recently, however, their results have been far less convincing, and they have struggled to maintain the level they once showed in that campaign. The team has often lacked stability, alternating occasional positive results with long winless runs. In the summer, Ole Werner, the architect of their recent progress, also left the club. Without him things have not gone well in Bremen — to the point that the threat of dropping into the second division has become very real. Results became especially poor from the end of November, when they could not manage to defeat anyone for a long time. Among those results was a 1–2 defeat to one of the outsiders, St. Pauli. However, in the latest round they finally collected three important points, beating another underdog, Heidenheim, 2–0.
The Green-Whites have lost only once in the last five meetings, winning the other four — including the home match in October. The stadium factor could play an important role here, since both teams have plenty of questions surrounding their form. The match will take place in Berlin, so the pick is a win for the local Iron Ones, but with a draw no bet option.
Prediction for the match: Union Berlin to win with 0.0 handicap.
