Tottenham take on the visitors Manchester United in the final match of UEFA Europa League. The match will be played on Wednesday April 21th at Estadio San Mamés (Bilbao).
Tottenham are a peculiar kind of football legend — but mostly for their inability to win trophies. Despite their status, they haven’t lifted any major title in years: Pochettino lost a Champions League final, and Mourinho was sacked right before a domestic cup final. Ange Postecoglou, however, will be given a chance to finish the job — although it’s already known he’ll leave in the summer. Tottenham completely collapsed in the Premier League this season, hovering near the relegation zone after finishing fifth last year. Their Europa League campaign has also been shaky: they lost the first leg to AZ and were held to a draw by Eintracht Frankfurt at home. Still, the Londoners turned things around in the return legs, progressing past both opponents. In the semis, they comfortably swept Bodø/Glimt — 3-1 at home and 2-0 in Norway.

Manchester United have been here before. The Red Devils haven’t been able to reestablish themselves as a true powerhouse since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. Even José Mourinho, despite domestic setbacks, managed to deliver the Europa League title during his tenure. Ironically, United are now managed by another Portuguese coach — Rúben Amorim — who replaced Erik ten Hag last autumn. But on the domestic front, Amorim’s reign hasn’t been much better. United came dangerously close to crashing out of the Europa League: after eliminating Real Sociedad with a strong home win (4-1 after a draw in San Sebastián), they nearly threw away a 2-0 lead against Lyon at Old Trafford. The French side — down to ten men — even took the lead in extra time, but in a dramatic “Fergie-time” twist, United scored twice in added time of the second extra period to pull off a 5-4 aggregate win. After that, they cruised past Athletic Bilbao — 3-0 away and 4-1 at home.
Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six matches against Manchester United, winning four of them — including both of their most recent encounters. United may be slight favourites on paper, but for Spurs, this is the biggest match in years. Expect goals on both ends — we’re backing over 2.5 total goals in the final.
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
