Tottenham Hotspur somehow managed to perform even worse than they did last season. Back then, “Spurs” already failed badly in the Premier League, finishing only 17th. However, that disaster was compensated by an excellent UEFA Europa League campaign, which brought both a long-awaited trophy and qualification for the UEFA Champions League. They began the new European campaign under Thomas Frank, but he was replaced during the winter by Igor Tudor. Tottenham’s recent home form has improved noticeably, especially in matches where they have been forced to play aggressively from the first minutes. At the same time, the team still looks vulnerable defensively and often struggles to hold onto narrow advantages late in games. Tudor somehow managed to crash out of Europe without much resistance against Atlético de Madrid in the playoffs, while their league situation became even worse. Even after Roberto De Zerbi finally arrived in spring after months of speculation, things did not improve immediately: he started with a defeat to Sunderland AFC, then dropped two points against his former club Brighton & Hove Albion FC due to a stoppage-time equalizer. Eventually, though, the Italian’s appointment began producing the expected effect. That was not only about beating Wolverhampton Wanderers FC — even if the already-relegated opponent was edged out only 1-0. More importantly, Spurs then followed it up with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa FC, which lifted them into the “safe” 17th place. Still, it must be remembered that Villa were clearly focused on their Europa League semifinal revenge mission at the time.

After relegation from the Premier League, “The Peacocks” turned to Daniel Farke in 2023. He had already proven multiple times that he could succeed in the Championship, and he did so once again — albeit only on his second attempt. Back in the Premier League, however, the promoted side gradually built momentum and by spring had established a very comfortable gap above the relegation zone. It is also worth noting that “The Whites” enjoyed a respectable cup run alongside their league campaign. After eliminating West Ham United FC on penalties in the quarterfinals, they eventually lost only 0-1 to a struggling Chelsea FC side in the semifinals, shortly after the London club had dismissed Liam Rosenior.
The 2-1 away victory in October became Tottenham’s fifth consecutive win in head-to-head meetings between the sides. The more motivated team is playing at home here. Back Spurs to take all three points under these circumstances.
