Tottenham take on the visitors Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of UEFA Europa League quarterfinals. The match will be played on Thursday, April 10th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London).
Tottenham have gone so long without winning a major trophy that it has practically become a meme in football culture. Things reached a point where even Harry Kane, after leaving in 2023 for Bayern Munich, still couldn’t lift a trophy — and that’s with Bayern! Without Kane, new manager Ange Postecoglou failed to beat Aston Villa to fourth place in the Premier League last season. Hopes of improvement this season were dashed by a long, painful slump in the league — while relegation was never a real threat, results were poor even compared to the post-Pochettino era. They made a decent run in the League Cup, reaching the semi-finals and even beating Liverpool 1-0 at home — only to suffer a heavy loss at Anfield. The previous Europa League playoff round almost ended in disaster as well, with a 0-1 first-leg loss to AZ. But Spurs showed real grit at home, turning things around with a confident 3-1 win to progress. Now, with little to play for domestically, this tournament has become their only realistic shot at saving the season.

Eintracht Frankfurt look promising, even without their former star man. The Eagles have made a habit of punching above their weight in recent years — their Europa League triumph remains a proud achievement. But their rise has often been followed by selling off top talent, and that has affected consistency. Much of their recent success was linked to the form of Omar Marmoush, who contributed key goals and assists before being sold to Manchester City in January. While the deal was financially lucrative, losing their top scorer hit the squad hard. Indeed, the Bundesliga campaign faltered with just one win in seven games and a run of three straight losses. But they recovered with two straight wins in March to remain in third place — still well in contention for a Champions League spot. In Europe, they’ve been more consistent, comfortably beating Ajax home and away in the Round of 16. With or without star power, Eintracht remain a well-drilled, ambitious team under Dino Toppmöller.
The sides met in the 2022 Europa League group stage. After a goalless draw in Germany, Spurs edged the return leg 3-2 in London. The English side knows that elimination would effectively end their season in failure. They simply have to win — back them to do so.
Prediction for the match: Tottenham to win.
