Togo take on the visitors South Sudan in the round 3 match of group round in the first stage qualification for the World Cup. The match will be played on Wednesday, June 4th at Stade de Kégué (Lomé).
First place in Group B of the African qualification cycle for the 2026 World Cup will most likely predictably go to Senegal. However, the second spot is expected to be contested by DR Congo, Sudan, and Togo. Despite the Hawks not having any victories yet, they can consider their qualification start successful. First, the team drew away against Sudan (1-1), and then took points from Senegal (0-0). It's time for them to secure a win. Especially since in the third round, the group’s underdog is visiting the Togolese, in a home match where the Hawks simply cannot afford to drop points.

South Sudan is unlikely to seriously compete for top spots in their 2026 World Cup qualifying group. They started this qualification stage with a heavy defeat against Senegal (0-4), which is not surprising at all. Then, the team drew at home with Mauritania (0-0), another team considered an underdog in the group. Moreover, despite playing away, Mauritania looked better on the field. In the spring, South Sudan started in the AFCON qualification. They barely made it through the preliminary round, drawing twice with the little-known team of São Tomé and Príncipe (1-1 and 0-0).
While South Sudan advanced past the modest São Tomé and Príncipe team only due to an away goal, the Togolese played two friendly matches. In one, they drew with a solid Libya (1-1), and in the other, they defeated Niger (2-1). In the upcoming clash between the Hawks and South Sudan, my preference is clearly with the hosts. If they want to be in the top-2 of the group by the end of the qualification cycle, they must defeat opponents like the upcoming one at home. My prediction is a win for Togo.
Prediction for the match: Togo to win.
