Switzerland take on the visitors Denmark in the round 4 match of UEFA Nations League group stage. The match will be played on Tuesday, October 15th at Kybunpark (St. Gallen).
Switzerland performed decently at the last European Championship, making it to the playoffs where they narrowly lost to future finalists, England, in a penalty shootout. But after that... The coaching staff remained the same, and the squad was almost identical, yet the team that dazzled at the Euros seemingly disappeared. The Swiss have lost all three of their matches since the continental tournament. All three losses came in the Nations League, one of which was against Denmark, where the Danes won 2-0. It could have been an even bigger scoreline, with Denmark taking 17 shots compared to Switzerland's 5. The Swiss team doesn’t have any significant injury problems.

The Danes also exited in the first round of the playoffs at the last Euros. However, unlike their upcoming opponents, the "Scarlet Guard" didn’t fall apart. In fact, they beat not only Switzerland but also Serbia in the Nations League. In their most recent match in Spain, they were inches away from grabbing a draw, but the European champions scored the winning goal in the 79th minute. Denmark boasts an impressive squad, with players representing clubs like Celtic, Leicester, Fulham, Manchester United, Brentford, Sporting, Benfica, Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Leipzig, Eintracht, Marseille, and Lazio—all of them fit and ready.
Denmark, despite their recent loss in Spain, should be relatively satisfied with themselves. They sit second in the table and have performed brilliantly in defense across the three tournament matches. The goal conceded in Spain is the only one they've allowed so far. Switzerland has no choice but to try to pick up points, but it’s hard to see how they can score against such a solid defense, especially with their toothless attack. The Swiss have scored just one goal in their last three matches. Historically, their encounters with Denmark have brought little success. Out of eight meetings, Switzerland has won only once, and that was way back in 1984. In the other seven matches, they lost three times. In their last encounter, Switzerland controlled the midfield, made over 100 passes, and forced their opponents to play nervously and commit fouls, resulting in two red cards for Denmark. Surely, this time the "Danish Dynamite" will employ a similar strategy—why would coach Hjulmand change a winning formula? At the very least, Denmark won’t lose, and they may even explode and take all three points.
Prediction for the match: Denmark to win.
