They started successfully with three wins but only added one more victory against the underdog, Andorra, amidst a plethora of draws. Ultimately, they lost 0-1 on the opponent’s field. They didn’t manage to significantly improve. They ended with a goalless draw away to Denmark and narrowly beat modest Ireland thanks to a solitary Shaqiri goal. At least they comfortably dealt with Estonia last summer, winning 4-0.

Austria has gained form in this cycle. Das Team has generally improved significantly, reclaiming their status as a strong opponent. In June, they defeated Serbia, scoring twice in the first quarter of an hour and finishing 2-1. Notably, they went through this entire cycle without their captain, Alaba. David has not yet recovered and will miss the upcoming Euros.
In the last 6 head-to-head encounters, Das Team has only won once, back in 2006. The remaining 5 matches, including the last 3, ended in victories for the Neutrals.
