Strasburg take on the visitors Marseille in the round 5 match of French Ligue 1. The match will be played on Friday, September 26th at Stade de la Meinau (Strasbourg).
Strasbourg are finally showing something. Racing’s squad has been heavily reinforced by players from Chelsea — no surprise given that both clubs share Todd Boehly as a major investor. Unsurprisingly, their coach is also English, with Rosenior arriving to lead the project. His work last season brought Strasbourg up to 7th place in Ligue 1, which was enough to send them into the Europa Conference League. There they began with a worrying goalless draw at home against Brøndby, but then advanced to the main stage with a 3-2 away win. Domestically, things are also looking promising. Yes, they slipped against Monaco (again 3-2!), but the other games were victories. They even managed to win a shootout against PSG — once again with their favorite 3-2 scoreline. Strasbourg have been particularly effective in attack, averaging over two goals per match so far. Their defense, however, still looks shaky, conceding regularly even in winning efforts.

Marseille brought in De Zerbi just over a year ago, after he grew tired of limited ambitions in the Premier League. Last season he immediately delivered the maximum possible under current conditions, given PSG’s dominance. Naturally, ambitious directors at Olympique expected further progress. But things began with a home defeat to Rennes despite playing with a man advantage, which triggered a locker room brawl. The instigators, led by Rabiot, were dropped and then sold, but they still ended the summer with another loss, this time to Lyon. In September, though, they produced a resounding 4-0 victory over Lorient. After that came some very tough opponents. Their Champions League opener was against Real Madrid, where they had every chance of a draw, but the Spanish giants snatched victory with two penalties converted by Mbappé — both of which were controversial. Just days later, they shocked PSG in Paris with a 1-0 win. Marseille’s resilience and ability to recover quickly from setbacks is a good sign for their campaign. At the same time, their defense has looked more stable than in previous seasons, helping them grind out results.
Five of the last six meetings between these sides ended in draws (usually 1-1 or 2-2). The only exception came in September last year, when Strasbourg won 1-0 at home. Matches involving Racing have become a guarantee of entertainment. The bet here is on over 2.5 total goals.
Prediction for the match: Over 2.5 scored goals.
