Southampton vs Ipswich Prediction 28 April 2026

Southampton take on the visitors Ipswich in the postponed round 40 match of English Championship. The match will be played on Tuesday, April 28th at St. Mary's Stadium (Southampton).

Southampton have been bouncing between divisions in recent years. After being relegated to the EFL Championship, they immediately returned, only to struggle badly in 2024/2025, changing managers and losing to almost everyone with dreadful statistics. Moreover, after going back down to the second tier again, they started the campaign poorly. However, their recent performances have been outstanding, with the team building strong momentum and confidence. They have been consistently picking up wins and looking far more organized than earlier in the season. Things changed after another managerial switch — relatively unknown Tonda Eckert arrived from Germany and quickly turned things around, with the team mostly winning under him. Even in the cup, they impressed by knocking out Fulham FC and even Arsenal FC. This week, they also put up a strong fight against Manchester City in the semi-final. At the same time, Southampton have sharply improved in the Championship, with only Bristol City managing to stop their winning streak in the last round, though that match came amid cup preparations.

Ipswich clearly do not want to get stuck at this level. “The Tractor Boys” have a proud history but spent a long time in the lower divisions. Only under Kieran McKenna did they climb out of EFL League One in 2023, and the following season they secured promotion to the Premier League. Their recent form has been solid overall, with the team remaining competitive in most matches. However, they have occasionally dropped important points, which has affected their push for higher positions. They looked decent there, even compared to Southampton, but it wasn’t enough to avoid relegation back to the Championship. Back at this level, they have again delivered strong performances, competing not necessarily for the top two spots but certainly for a place in the top six. In their latest match against West Bromwich Albion, however, they dropped crucial points with a goalless draw.

In the last three meetings, Southampton have one win and two draws — including a 1–1 result away at Ipswich in August. The Saints understand the importance of this opportunity and should give their maximum effort. Backing Southampton to win makes sense, but given the strength of their opponent, a draw no bet option looks safer.

Prediction for the match: Southampton to win with 0.0 handicap.
