Slovenia take on Denmark in the round 1 match of UEFA Euro-2024 in group C. The match will be played on Sunday, June 16th at MHPArena (Stuttgart).
Slovenia finally reaches a major tournament. The "Boys" have managed to qualify for both the Euros and the World Cup in the past, largely thanks to their ability to excel in knockout matches. However, since 2010, they have struggled to make it through the qualifiers or even make a mark in the playoffs. It was only in last year's qualification that they finally achieved the long-awaited result. Matjaž Kek's men didn't create any sports miracle but simply took advantage of their opportunity. They managed to edge out Finland, with whom they exchanged victories, as well as Northern Ireland and Kazakhstan, which was enough to secure the coveted spot. This year, Slovenia has continued their unbeaten run in friendly matches. They only managed draws against Malta and, just before the championship, Bulgaria, but they did achieve wins over the USA, Armenia, and even Portugal, beating them 2-0 at home in March.

Denmark team, following a dramatic but successful Euro 2020 campaign where they were only halted by England in extra time during the semifinals, had a disappointing World Cup, failing to progress from a relatively easy group. Unlike Belgium, however, Denmark managed to maintain team spirit in the locker room, and Kasper Hjulmand retained his position as head coach. Last year saw some setbacks, including a defeat in Kazakhstan and a draw in Slovenia. But the Danes wrapped up the qualification with a relaxed 0-2 defeat to Northern Ireland, as their ticket to the tournament was already secured. In 2024, after starting with a goalless draw against Austria, the national team went on to defeat their neighbors – the Faroe Islands, Sweden, and Norway.
In last year's qualification, Slovenia managed to draw with the Scandinavians for the first time after four defeats. However, they later lost 1-2 in Copenhagen. The "Danish Dynamite" is both stronger and more experienced, especially at this stage. We believe that Eriksen and his team will be able to start the Euros with a win.
Prediction for the match: Denmark to win.
