Slavia Prague take on the visitors Royale Union SG in the first leg semifinals of UEFA Champions League qualification. The match will be played on Wednesday, August 7th at Fortuna Arena (Prague).
Slavia Prague recently had the strongest run in their history and clearly intended to continue winning trophies. However, their last Czech league title dates back to 2021, and in the past two seasons, they lost the championship race to their arch-rivals, neighboring Sparta. With a coaching change at Sparta, there's hope to capitalize on this factor. At least, they aimed to start the domestic season with a victory. But in reality, they managed only a goalless draw at Slovacko's ground, followed by a convincing win over Ceske Budejovice. In Liberec, they played against Slovan. They are now beginning their Champions League qualification journey, and it's no surprise that their first opponent is quite formidable.

Royal Union has changed coaches again – and already won a trophy. "Les Unionistes" haven't lowered their standards. On one hand, they once again lost the top spot at the very end of the season, once again to Brugge. However, they managed to clinch the Belgian Cup in one of the last matches of spring. This marked their first trophy in many decades for what is, in fact, a very storied club – a quick glance at their list of honors and their dates proves this. In July, under the new coach Sebastien Pocognoli, they quickly added another trophy. Yes, it was only the Super Cup, but they won it against Brugge, and on their turf at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Perhaps due to over-celebration, the favorites started the new Belgian league season with a goalless draw at Dender's ground.
The Belgians have only recently returned to the top level. Expectedly, this will be their first trip to the Czech capital. The "Patchwork Team" is considered the favorite at home in this matchup. However, it won't be easy for them – it's hard to believe this will be a high-scoring affair. Expect "total under 2.5 goals."
Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
