Sevilla take on the visitors Real Madrid in the round 37 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Sunday, May 17th at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán (Sevilla).
Sevilla is still remembered for its recent successes — frequent Europa League triumphs, Champions League knockout appearances, and regular finishes among La Liga’s top four. But the last few years have brought a sharp decline, and a year ago they finished with just one point more than relegated CD Leganés. To fix that, they brought in Matías Almeyda in the summer, and he initially looked promising — the 4-1 demolition of FC Barcelona says plenty. But Almeyda himself received a lengthy suspension, and defeats began to pile up in March. Sevilla’s recent turnaround, however, has been impossible to ignore, with momentum finally building after months of instability. Confidence appears to have returned, especially at home, where performances have looked far more aggressive and composed. Even so, many did not understand the decision to sack him immediately. And that skepticism proved justified: yes, under Luis García they beat Atlético Madrid, but Atlético had other priorities beyond La Liga. The rest of the matches, even against Real Oviedo and Levante UD, were lost, sending Sevilla into the relegation zone. But then the resurgence finally came — and a sharp one at that. They followed up with consecutive wins over Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol, and even Villarreal CF.

Real Madrid failed again. The Royal Club, after being knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal F.C. last year, then lost on every domestic front to Barcelona. After that, even Carlo Ancelotti could not keep his job. But with Xabi Alonso and later Álvaro Arbeloa, it was frankly a poor season, featuring defeats to the Catalans in the Super Cup and a shocking cup exit to modest Albacete Balompié. Their overall form has improved slightly in recent weeks, but the bigger picture still reflects a deeply disappointing campaign by their standards. Even when winning lately, the performances have often lacked the authority expected from a side of Real Madrid’s stature. Things did go reasonably well in the Champions League, where they even produced convincing wins over Manchester City F.C.. They gave FC Bayern Munich a real fight and even tried to get revenge in Munich, but ultimately lost both matches. In La Liga, they briefly climbed to 1st place in early spring, but almost immediately began dropping points consistently. In the end, Barcelona officially sealed the title after a 2-0 win in El Clásico. At least they managed victories against their last two opponents, Espanyol and Oviedo.
Since Sevilla’s last win back in 2018, all the Nervionenses have managed are two draws against the giant, losing every other meeting. The hosts have already neutralized the relegation threat. In those circumstances, backing the visitors with draw no bet looks like the logical choice.
Prediction for the match: Real Madrid to win with 0.0 handicap.
