Sevilla vs Betis Prediction 6 October 2024

Sevilla take on the visitors Betis in the round 9 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Sunday, October 6th at Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan (Sevilla).

Sevilla are still seen as regular contenders for the top four in Spanish football and the most successful club in the Europa League. They lost their top-four status in the season before last but compensated by winning yet another European title. However, in the following season, they crashed out of the Champions League, finishing fourth in their group, and slid down to 14th in La Liga. The summer offered little optimism, with talks about selling players to improve the club's dire financial situation. Several players were let go, including some on free transfers, but the new signings, like Saúl and Iheanacho, were considered decent additions. Despite this, the start under new manager Pimiénta wasn't great—they managed their first win only in the fifth attempt. That was a narrow home victory over Getafe, followed by a 2-1 win against Valladolid at home as well. They also salvaged a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao, thanks to a late own goal.

Betis are at risk of declining further. The "Green-and-Whites" finally started achieving something when they brought Manuel Pellegrini back to Spain. They peaked with a 5th-place finish in La Liga, coupled with winning the Copa del Rey. However, they've been slowly losing ground since then. Last season, as Girona and Athletic Club surged, Betis struggled but managed to secure 7th place after a tight battle with Villarreal, earning a spot in the Conference League. They easily overcame Kryvbas in the qualifiers, but last Thursday, they stumbled again, losing 0-1 to Legia Warsaw. Their La Liga results have been underwhelming—they've lost not only to Real Madrid but also to Mallorca. Their only wins so far have been against Leganés and Getafe (in back-to-back games), while they've drawn with the rest of their opponents. Last week, however, they did manage a 1-0 win over Espanyol.

This remains one of the most heated derbies in Spain, but the last four meetings in La Liga have all ended in draws, either 1-1 or, once, 0-0. Sevilla, playing at home, is given the slight edge, but they are far from being in top form. The best bet here is on "total under 2.5 goals."

Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
