Scotland take on Hungary in the round 3 match of UEFA Euro-2024 group stage. The match will be played on Sunday, June 23rd at MHPArena (Stuttgart).
The "Tartan Army" has reached their peak in this qualifying campaign. They played in the last Euro, but secured their spot not directly, but through the "Nations League Path" (where they only managed a goalless draw with their neighbors, the English). They were later knocked out by Ukraine in the playoffs for World Cup qualification, but they avenged that with a victory over Ukraine in the battle for group leadership in the Nations League. The main highlight, however, was a strong run in last year's Euro qualifiers, including victories over teams like Spain. But during the qualification, their momentum was lost, and even in 2024, the Highlanders only managed to beat Gibraltar 2-0. Fans hoped that motivation and focus would return in official matches, bringing good football with them. However, in their Euro opener, the team suffered a 1-5 defeat to Germany, followed by a draw with Switzerland – a result more favorable for the opponent. Now they must win at all costs.

Hungary, once again failing to qualify for the World Cup, went through last year's Euro qualifiers calmly and comfortably. Yes, there were draws against clearly weaker teams, but they didn't lose to anyone and beat the group favorite, Serbia, twice with scores of 2-1. In the 2024 friendlies, Szoboszlai and company mostly won, though there was a warning sign with a 1-2 loss to Ireland. The biggest disappointment, however, came in the first Euro match, where Switzerland scored twice before halftime and could have scored more. Hungary tried to get back into the game, scored in the second half, and had a chance to equalize. But it all ended with a major mistake by Orbán, which Embolo capitalized on to seal a 3-1 result. Against Germany, as expected, they lost 0-2 without much of a fight.
The teams have played a couple of friendly matches in 2004 and 2018, exchanging victories. The odds are considered almost equal. However, it’s hard to believe that Szoboszlai and company won’t try to either "shoot for the stars" or "go out with a bang." We are betting on the nominal guests with a handicap of "0."
Prediction for the match: Hungary to win with 0.0 handicap.
