Kayserispor are simply running out the clock. This is a modest club, especially when compared to their current opponent. Their historical peak was a fifth-place Süper Lig finish back in 2013, and five years before that they lifted their only trophy — the Turkish Cup. Since then, they’ve even been relegated, and last season they finished 14th, docked three points during the campaign. This season has been steady if unspectacular — far from the relegation fight, but never in serious contention for Europe. In spring, Yakirović’s side managed a seven-game unbeaten streak, which was finally broken by Galatasaray. A 1-1 draw with Bodrum in the following round suggested the team is winding down and simply seeing out the season.
Samsunspor have won three of the last four meetings between the sides, including both of the most recent clashes. With bronze at stake and the visitors showing little motivation, the home side should be able to secure all three points.
