Rennes take on the visitors PSG in the round 22 match of French Ligue 1. The match will be played on Friday, February 13th at Roazhon Park (Rennes).
Rennes have never been considered a true giant of French football. However, they did enjoy notable success in recent years. Then a decline followed, and in 2024/2025 there was a very real threat of relegation to Ligue 2. Fortunately, the new head coach who arrived at that time proved good enough to prevent it comfortably, finishing the spring with 41 points and in a safe position. This season, they managed to climb into the upper half of the table, showing signs of revived European ambitions. But in January, an unexpected downturn began — only a draw with Le Havre, followed by defeats to Lorient, Monaco and Lens. They were also heavily beaten by Marseille in the cup, after which the coach who had been a hero a year earlier was relieved of his duties. Recent performances highlight defensive instability, as Rennes have conceded too easily against direct competitors. At home, though, they still tend to play with more intensity and often try to press high from the opening whistle.

PSG are not as dominant as last season. The Parisians under Luis Enrique reached their peak, collecting almost every possible trophy in 2025, crowned by the long-awaited Champions League triumph. Only in the summer at the Club World Cup did they suffer a loud setback against Chelsea. It is already clear that repeating such a total triumph will be difficult, especially after a surprising cup defeat to their neighbors Paris. On the other hand, they did lift the Super Cup, beating old rivals Marseille on penalties. In other long-term competitions, they seem to be managing their efforts more calmly. In the Champions League, they advanced to the play-offs quite confidently. In Ligue 1, after going into the winter break in second place, they benefited from Lens dropping points in January. Following a narrow win over Strasbourg, PSG then produced a stunning 5–0 demolition of Marseille away from home. Their recent league form suggests they are building momentum at the right time of the season. Even away from home, PSG have looked composed and efficient, often deciding matches with authority.
In December, the capital giant secured their fourth consecutive victory in this fixture. There do not appear to be serious problems for the Parisians here. Yes, they will have the upcoming Champions League play-offs in mind. But even away from home, they should beat this opponent with a -1.0 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: PSG to win with -1.0 handicap.
