Real Sociedad take on the visitors Sevilla in the round 10 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Friday, October 24th at Reale Arena (San Sebastian).
Real Sociedad, under their own academy product Imanol Alguacil, once enjoyed a great spell — winning the Copa del Rey, finishing fourth in La Liga, and reaching the Champions League knockout stages. But for several seasons now, the club has clearly been in decline. Last spring, the San Sebastián side not only failed to secure their usual European spot but dropped all the way to 11th place in the standings. The management replaced Alguacil with Sergio Francisco, another coach from within the club’s system, hoping to recreate past success. However, after losing several key players in the summer, the team has struggled for consistency. They started the season with a couple of wins but then lost five of the next six games, with only a brief respite in the victory over Mallorca. Even after the international break, their 1-1 draw with Celta suggested that stability remains elusive. At home, Real Sociedad have looked less dominant than in previous years, often failing to turn possession into points.

Sevilla hopes it has finally bounced off the bottom. The “White Andalusians” were recently in a situation much like their upcoming opponent’s current one. A regular top-four finisher and multiple Europa League champion, Sevilla slipped as low as 17th last season, narrowly avoiding relegation by a single point ahead of Leganés. New coach Matías Almeyda began his tenure with losses to Athletic and Getafe, but his fiery character and tactical flexibility quickly began to turn things around. The team responded with a morale-boosting win over Girona and continued to improve through autumn, highlighted by a stunning 4-1 triumph over Barcelona. However, they unexpectedly stumbled in their most recent match, losing 1-3 to Mallorca in a game marked by lapses in concentration. Despite that setback, Sevilla’s overall form has clearly improved, and they’ve been more confident and composed in away matches lately.
In each of the last two seasons, the clubs traded wins against one another. Considering the home advantage, the hosts are expected to push for three points. However, Sevilla look stronger and more organized at the moment, so the visitors should be able to avoid defeat.
Prediction for the match: Sevilla not to lose (X2).
