Rayo Vallecano take on the visitors Getafe in the round 34 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Friday, April 2nd at Campo de Futbol de Vallecas (Madrid).
Rayo Vallecano are an unconventional team that, despite limited resources, can sometimes surprise. Last season, they finished 17th with just 38 points — five more than relegated Cádiz, but still a wake-up call. The warning was taken seriously, and despite the failed attempt to revive James Rodríguez’s career, Rayo produced solid results early in the new campaign. At one point, they even flirted with the European qualification spots. However, from mid-February onward, the team appeared to run out of steam or motivation, losing most of their games and only managing one win, against Alavés. Their most recent outing ended in a heavy 0-3 defeat to Atlético Madrid. They have now lost five of their last seven league matches and scored just three goals in that stretch. The sharp drop in intensity has all but ended their hopes of finishing in the top half.

Getafe are also already looking forward to the summer break. The Blues, under José Bordalás, once reached the Europa League playoffs and even finished 5th in La Liga. But that was during his first spell in charge. Since returning, Bordalás hasn't matched those heights but has kept the team stable and away from relegation danger. Last season brought 43 points and a 12th-place finish, and this campaign hasn’t deviated much from that pattern. There have been signs of slight progress, but also stretches of inconsistency. After the international break in spring, the team lost momentum, picking up unexpected defeats to Las Palmas and Espanyol. In their midweek fixture, they put up a fight against Real Madrid but eventually fell short, losing 0-1. Getafe remain hard to beat on their day, but they’ve now failed to score in four of their last six games. Defensive discipline remains their strength, even when creativity up front is lacking.
Five of the last six meetings between these sides have ended in draws — four of them with a 0-0 scoreline. The only exception came in January of last year, when Rayo picked up a 2-0 away win. Rayo may be considered the favorite at home, but they aren’t performing better than their neighbors. Getafe have issues of their own, but they should be capable of avoiding defeat in this local derby.
Prediction for the match: Getafe not to lose (X2).
