"Rapid" (Vienna) were once the strongest not only in Austria but also, between the World Wars, in Europe – one can recall their victories in the Mitropa Cup (and after the Anschluss, they even won the German championship and cup). Since then, local football has been dominated by "Red Bull Salzburg," and last season they were replaced by "Sturm." The capital team didn’t get involved in these battles, finishing only 4th this time. Even this result sent the team to the Europa League. Their first opponent was "Wisła" from Kraków, which somehow managed to win the Polish Cup while being in the country's second division. But they weren't much of a challenge for "Rapid," who won both away (2-1) and at home (a comprehensive 6-1 victory). In Turkey, they also managed to win, albeit more modestly, 1-0.

"Trabzonspor" is a team of high quality. Quite unexpectedly, they didn't score and conceded. This was followed by a 0-0 draw in the league against "Sivasspor" – a slump at the worst possible time?
