Shovkovsky, initially as an interim coach and later as a full-fledged manager, lifted Dynamo to a final second place, although they couldn't seriously challenge Shakhtar. Now, having strengthened with players like Rubchinsky, Bragaryu, and Pihalenko, the capital club has primarily focused on securing a spot in the Champions League group stage. They demolished their first opponent, Partizan, with a 6-2 win in Lublin and a 3-0 win in Belgrade. Hosting the Scots in Poland, they opened the scoring but allowed the opponent to seize the initiative. Ultimately, it ended in a deserved draw—they conceded again in the final minutes.
The only previous encounter with the "Light Blues" was in 1987, also in the European Cup. Dynamo won narrowly at home but conceded two unanswered goals in Glasgow, resulting in elimination. The "Light Blues" were not worse in Poland. At home, they should secure a win in regular time.
