PSG finally achieved their long-standing goal by winning the Champions League in 2025. Overall, that year turned out to be extremely successful for the club. Recently, however, their results have looked less convincing, as they have dropped points more often in domestic competitions and have not shown the same dominance as before. Even in matches where they manage to control the game, the Parisians have sometimes struggled to turn that advantage into comfortable victories. Ironically, the only thing that denied them a perfect record in terms of trophies that year was the Blues from London, who defeated them convincingly in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Now, even after strengthening the squad with a couple of newcomers such as Zabarnyi, the club does not look as solid. Yes, they won the French Super Cup in January, though only on penalties. At the same time, in Ligue 1 they cannot pull away from Lens, and their cup campaign ended in a surprising early exit against neighbors Paris FC. In the Champions League the title holders were also forced to begin the playoffs already in February, where with a minimal margin of goals (3–2 away, 2–2 at home) they eliminated their fellow city rivals — the inconsistent Monaco.

Chelsea are forced to compete on several fronts. The Blues appointed Maresca before the start of last season. Unlike several more experienced predecessors, he managed to succeed, guiding the team to 4th place in the Premier League and, before their triumph at the FIFA Club World Cup, also winning the Conference League. In the current campaign Chelsea have been quite inconsistent domestically, alternating confident victories with frustrating dropped points, which keeps them under pressure in the race for the top places. On the other hand, in the Premier League there is a fierce battle to keep a place in the top four this season. In the Champions League, meanwhile, finishing with two victories, including an away win over Napoli, allowed them to enter the top eight of the main round and only now begin their playoff campaign.
In total, including the International Champions Cup, the teams have played 11 head-to-head matches. This summer the Blues restored parity — both sides now have three victories each. There are still some questions surrounding the French side. It may therefore be worth considering a bet on the visitors with a +1 goal handicap.
