Portugal take on Czech Republic in the round 1 match of UEFA Euro-2024 in group F. The match will be played on Tuesday, June 18th at Red Bull Arena (Leipzig).
In Group "F," where there are no opponents from top-tier teams, Portugal is the main contender for first place. The "European Brazilians" secured ten wins in ten matches during the Euro qualifying rounds, with a goal difference of 36-2, setting several records for their national team. Yes, one could argue that Portugal had an easy group, but whose problem is that? Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring, with only Lukaku scoring more goals in the qualifiers. The team plays excellent, combinational football. Although there were three wins and two losses in the summer friendlies, friendlies are meant for making mistakes and learning from them before official matches. I believe Portugal will have no issues in their first match on German soil.

Unlike the Portuguese, the Czech Republic won all their friendly matches before the start of the Euros. This is, of course, commendable. However, firstly, none of their opponents were even close to the level of the Portuguese - North Macedonia, Norway, Armenia, Malta. And secondly, I wasn’t particularly impressed by the Czechs during the European Championship qualifiers. They drew once each with Poland and Albania and shared points in a match against modest Moldova (0-0). Moreover, in one match, the Czech Republic was utterly defeated by the previously mentioned Albanians (0-3), who eventually took first place in the group. I believe that in the Euros, this team will compete with the Turks for the second playoff spot from their group. But in the match against Portugal, they won't even manage a draw.
So far, the favorites in the tournament are winning the matches they are expected to win, and they haven't let me down. Although I think the odds on Portugal's success in the battle against the Czechs are slightly inflated, I will still bet on a logical victory for the "European Brazilians." The last time these teams faced each other was in the Nations League 2022, after the successful Euro 2021 for the Czech Republic. In both matches, Portugal comfortably defeated their opponent (2-0 and 4-0). I expect them to win against the Czechs in the tournament in Germany as well.
Prediction for the match: Portugal to win.
