Porto take on the visitors Nottingham in the first leg of UEFA Europa League quarterfinals. The match will be played on Thursday, April 9th at Estádio do Dragão (Porto).
Porto have spent several years playing second fiddle, or more precisely finishing third. Last season, they again watched from below as Sporting CP and SL Benfica battled for the title. Now, under Francesco Farioli, they have managed to climb to first place. However, their lead has recently shrunk, and they lost to Sporting in the cup, meaning they still need to focus heavily on domestic competition. In the UEFA Europa League, though, Porto have looked solid as usual. They recorded five wins and just one defeat in the main round (that loss coming against English opposition), and in March they comfortably overcame VfB Stuttgart in the playoffs (2-1 away, 2-0 at home). Their recent form shows stability, especially in European matches where they look confident. At the same time, the tightening title race in Portugal adds pressure and could affect their consistency.

Nottingham Forest are clearly inconsistent. The “Tricky Trees,” after returning to the Premier League, initially had to fight for survival. Nuno Espírito Santo managed to achieve that despite financial fair play issues and points deductions, and even led the team into European competition the following season. However, finishing 7th after spending a long time in the top four was seen as a disappointment, which led to his dismissal. His replacement, Ange Postecoglou, struggled badly, failing to win any matches in over a month. Sean Dyche then improved results, including a solid Europa League group stage. In the playoffs, however, Vítor Pereira took charge and delivered a convincing away win over Fenerbahçe S.K. and a hard-fought progression against FC Midtjylland after a penalty shootout. Their recent performances remain unstable, with sharp fluctuations in results. Nevertheless, Forest can be dangerous in knockout matches, especially when playing on the counter.
In the main round, the English side surprisingly won 2-0 at the City Ground. It is time for the “Dragons” to take revenge — the pick is Porto to win.
Prediction for the match: Porto to win.
