Otelul take on the visitors Metaloglobus Bucharest in the round 12 match of Romanian Superliga. The match will be played on Monday, October 6th at Stadionul Otelul (Galati).
Oțelul not so long ago, back in 2011, were crowned champions of Romania — and even lifted the Super Cup in the same year. But both before and after that success, their results were mostly modest. Moreover, a bankruptcy in the middle of the last decade forced the club to rebuild from scratch and slowly climb back to the top division. Now Oțelul are a solid mid-table team — they finished 8th last season and are currently performing at a similar level, alternating between wins, draws, and the occasional defeat. In their most recent match, they traveled to face the struggling champions FCSB, but despite creating several chances, failed to score and lost 0-1. Still, Oțelul remain a well-organized and disciplined team under their current coach, especially strong defensively at home. If they can improve their attacking efficiency, they have every chance to finish in the top half this season.

Metaloglobus are facing the expected challenges. The Pantelimon team was founded a century ago, but their Bucharest location often worked against them — overshadowed by several stronger neighbors. Only recently have they managed to experience life in Romania’s top division for the first time. This promotion was unexpected, as they finished only fifth in Liga II in the 2024/2025 season, but succeeded in the playoff matches to earn their spot. As expected, the debut in Liga I has been difficult. Still, there have been small signs of progress: after collecting just one draw (2-2 with Hermannstadt) and many defeats early on, Metaloglobus began earning points more regularly in late September with results against CFR Cluj and Csíkszereda. However, in the last round, they looked toothless again, losing 0-2 at home to Botoșani. Their defense remains leaky, and the attack struggles to convert chances, which keeps them anchored near the relegation zone. Nonetheless, the team’s fighting spirit and compact style occasionally allow them to surprise stronger opponents.
These clubs have met only once before, back in December 2022, when the Steelmakers claimed a convincing home victory. When a newcomer and likely relegation candidate visits, such matches must be won. The bet is on a home victory with a -1.0 goal handicap.
