Odense take on the visitors Randers in the round 4 match of Danish Superliga. The match will be played on Monday, August 11th at Nature Energy Park (Odense).
Odense have been champions of the country three times. Their fifth and most recent cup triumph came relatively recently, in 2007, and four seasons later they took part in yet another group stage in European competition. Then came a decline, and it was only this spring — as winners of the First Division — that Zorlinger's men managed to return to the Superliga. They started optimistically: twice taking the lead, they finished with an entertaining 3-3 draw against the runners-up, Midtjylland, and then followed it up with a convincing 3-1 win over Viborg. Only in the last round did things go wrong away to the modest Vejle: they conceded twice by the middle of the first half and ended up losing 0-4. It is now crucial to prove that was just an unfortunate slip, and that the newcomer’s momentum is far from exhausted. Their attack has already produced six goals in the opening three matches, showing they can trouble any defence in the league. However, defensive organisation remains a concern after conceding seven times in the same period.

Randers want to compete for something significant again. The “Horses” are nowhere near the status of domestic giants. But they have often managed to qualify for European competitions. Last season seemed to be going that way too — the players were consistent, finishing 4th in the regular season and holding that position in the championship group. However, under the rules they had to defend their Conference League spot in a play-off against “the best of the rest” — Silkeborg. And they lost 1-3 at home to the 7th-placed side from Aarhus! This season they can fully focus on the domestic league. In the opening round, they only managed a draw away to Vejle. But then, also away, they beat Aarhus, and in August they defeated Silkeborg again. A penalty from Touré in the 20th minute was enough to secure another full set of three points. Randers have looked solid defensively, with two clean sheets in their last three matches. Their style underlines discipline and compactness, often grinding out results even in tight contests.
Odense are unbeaten in six official head-to-head matches, although four of them ended in draws. The sides look evenly matched, and this game is unlikely to be a spectacle — expect a “total under 3.0 goals” outcome.
Prediction for the match: Under 3.0 scored goals.
