Nice take on the visitors Marseille in the round 13 match of French Ligue 1. The match will be played on Friday, November 21st at Allianz Riviera (Nice).
Nice had been occasionally successful in previous years, and under their new owners they tried to reclaim stronger positions. But only last season brought a real breakthrough: in an extremely tight battle with Lyon and Lille, they secured fourth place. This allowed them to finally return to the Champions League. However, their stay there was very short-lived: already in August their first qualifying opponent, Benfica, defeated the French side twice by the same 2–0 score. Moreover, after dropping into the Europa League, they remain pointless there as well: 1–2 losses to Roma, Fenerbahce and Celta, and a 1–3 defeat against Freiburg. And in domestic competition, after failures against PSG and Metz, they now have as many defeats as victories — five each. Their overall trajectory has become clearly downward, with European struggles spilling over into their league form. Recent matches also showed a worrying lack of consistency, which has prevented them from building any momentum.

Marseille are showing good football, though not in every competition. Olympique responded to their disappointing 2023/2024 campaign by luring De Zerbi as head coach and signing several notable stars last summer. This produced perhaps the best possible outcome — finishing second, with only PSG collecting more points. But after the international break the new season began with a shock: not only did they lose to an inconsistent Rennes side, but players even got into a physical altercation. However, the troublemakers are no longer in the dressing room — they were sold without hesitation — and results improved to the point that Marseille now sit just two points behind PSG, holding second place. Lens have the same 25 points, but the Olympiens remain firmly in the title race. In the Champions League, the French side have been far less convincing: despite a 4–0 win over Ajax, they lost not only to Real Madrid but also to Sporting and Atalanta. Ahead lies a crucial home match against Newcastle, where only a victory will guarantee a place in the knockout rounds. Their domestic form shows impressive stability, demonstrating that the team has adapted well to the new tactical ideas. At the same time, their European inconsistencies highlight lingering issues in high-pressure away matches.
Last season the teams beat each other at home by identical 2–0 scorelines. The Provençals started the season far better and clearly have no intention of slowing down. We believe in their victory in this match.
Prediction for the match: Marseille to win.
