Newcastle vs Manchester City Prediction 7 March 2026

Newcastle take on the visitors Manchester City in the round 1/8-finals of English FA Cup. The match will be played on Saturday, March 7th at St. James' Park (Newcastle).

Newcastle have certainly improved under their current owners and manager Howe. Still, after a strong year they are now experiencing a somewhat weaker season. The previous campaign was excellent, bringing victory in the EFL Cup and a 5th-place finish in the Premier League. Their recent results have also been inconsistent, alternating between confident wins and frustrating setbacks. Even so, the team continues to remain competitive in several competitions and regularly proves capable of challenging strong opponents. It is not that everything is bad now. In the Champions League, the English side reached the playoffs this time and already had no problems there with Qarabag, winning both matches, including a convincing victory in Baku. They also relinquished their EFL Cup title only in the semifinals, losing twice to Manchester City and company. But in the Premier League things are clearly worse than in 2024/2025 — now the goal is at least to finish in the European competition zone. Still, in the last round they reminded everyone of their strength and ambitions by defeating Manchester United. Meanwhile, in the FA Cup, after knocking out Bournemouth on penalties, they also managed to overcome Aston Villa.

Manchester City are hoping for success on multiple fronts. The Citizens regressed last season, finishing only third in the Premier League and, after being eliminated from other competitions, losing the final of the FA Cup. However, now they once again look capable of fighting for various trophies. Their overall form in recent weeks has been quite solid, allowing them to stay among the main contenders in several tournaments. The team continues to collect points regularly and remains one of the most consistent sides in the top part of the table. The closest opportunity for silverware is in the EFL Cup, where they only need to defeat Arsenal in the final. By the end of winter they had also practically caught up with the Gunners in the Premier League, helped by Arsenal’s sudden slowdown. Yet after getting very close to the leader, they themselves dropped points this week, drawing with Nottingham Forest — they led 1–0 and 2–1 but eventually had to settle for a draw. In the Champions League they also advanced to the playoffs among the leaders, though not without some flaws, so their knockout campaign is only about to begin. As for the FA Cup, the opposition there was rather modest, and they progressed through the rounds with maximum ease.

This season began with a Newcastle victory in the Premier League. But later in the EFL Cup semifinal they had no chances. And recently they lost 1–2 in the league. It is unlikely that much has changed in just a couple of weeks. We expect the visitors to win again.

Prediction for the match: Manchester City to win.
