Newcastle take on the visitors Arsenal in the round 6 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Sunday, September 28th at St. James' Park (Newcastle).
Newcastle are forced to rebuild their attack. The Magpies had already achieved success under their current manager. But the 2024/2025 campaign was truly impressive: they lifted the League Cup (a modest trophy, but one they hadn’t won in decades) and also secured 5th place in the Premier League. The latter allowed them to return to the Champions League after a one-year break. They started there with a home defeat, though it was against Barcelona, losing 1-2 due to a Rashford brace. In the Premier League, the saga with Isak’s strike clearly had an impact, as he pushed for his transfer to Liverpool. He finally got his move on deadline day, and in September Newcastle managed their first win, thanks to new signing Woltemade, brought in to replace Alexander. After a 1-0 victory against Wolverhampton, the next round brought only a goalless draw with Bournemouth. In the League Cup against Bradford, they finally produced a convincing 4-1 win. Still, Newcastle have found goals hard to come by without Isak, scoring more than once in just one of their last five league matches. Their defense, however, has kept them competitive, with three clean sheets in their last four domestic fixtures.

Arsenal once again finished second in the Premier League last spring. At first it felt like a long-awaited breakthrough, but by now it is beginning to look more like stagnation. Moreover, in 2024/2025, unlike the previous title race with City, there was no real competition right up to the final matchday. In response, they spent heavily on new arrivals in the summer, led by Gyökeres. Still, Liverpool invested even more massively, and also won the head-to-head clash in late August. Thankfully, in other games — starting with a 1-0 win over Manchester United and including a Champions League success against Athletic — Arsenal delivered only victories. In the last league round, they faced a new big test against City and managed to avoid defeat thanks to Martinelli’s stoppage-time goal. This week in the League Cup, they earned a solid 2-0 win over Port Vale. Arsenal have now gone unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions, showing greater resilience than last season. Their attack is also looking sharper, with at least two goals scored in five of their last six outings.
In their most recent run, Newcastle beat Arsenal three times in a row, including twice in the League Cup semifinal. Only in the spring did they finally fall to the runners-up. The visitors simply cannot afford a slip-up. Expect them to claim victory.
Prediction for the match: Arsenal to win.
