Netherlands vs Poland Prediction 4 September 2025

Netherlands take on the visitors Poland in a World Cup 2026 qualification match. The match will be played on Thursday, September 4th at De Kuip (Rotterdam).

The Netherlands are back at a high level. The “Oranje” not so long ago went through a difficult period, but that is clearly behind them now. Under Van Gaal at the last World Cup, they were eliminated by Argentina in a dramatic penalty shootout. At the Euros they were led by Ronald Koeman, and this time managed to reach the semifinals, only losing narrowly to England at the very end. Overall, they also showed their class in the Nations League. They reached the playoffs of League A, with both March matches against Spain ending in entertaining draws — but once again luck deserted them in the penalty shootout. That allowed them to begin their qualifying campaign in June, where Depay and company eased past Finland 2-0 away and then thrashed Malta 8-0 at home. The attack has been particularly impressive, scoring 10 unanswered goals in just two fixtures. Defensively, the Dutch have also looked solid, conceding only once in their last four matches.

Poland appear to be losing ground, and quite rapidly. At the last World Cup they scraped into the knockout stage, but at the Euros they lost their first two group games and were practically eliminated right away. Then came disappointment in the Nations League — just 4 points and bottom of their group, despite not all opponents being elite. Portugal were there, but so were Croatia, who also disappointed at the Euros, and another Croatia side with a fairly obvious ceiling. Still, Probierz held on to his job, and after a few qualifying wins even decided to strip Robert Lewandowski of the captain’s armband. The striker responded by publicly refusing to join the national team. After a damaging defeat to Finland, Probierz was dismissed, and now Urban makes his debut as head coach. It remains to be seen whether the internal conflicts have really been resolved. Poland’s attack has looked blunt without Lewandowski, while defensively they remain vulnerable against top-tier opposition.

In 8 of the last 10 meetings, including the two most recent ones, the “Oranje” were victorious, with the other two ending in draws. This is the kind of opponent the Dutch should beat convincingly at home. The bet: Netherlands to win with a -1.5 handicap.

Prediction for the match: Netherlands to win with -1.5 handicap.
