The attack has been particularly impressive, scoring 10 unanswered goals in just two fixtures. Defensively, the Dutch have also looked solid, conceding only once in their last four matches.

Poland appear to be losing ground, and quite rapidly. At the last World Cup they scraped into the knockout stage, but at the Euros they lost their first two group games and were practically eliminated right away. Then came disappointment in the Nations League — just 4 points and bottom of their group, despite not all opponents being elite. Portugal were there, but so were Croatia, who also disappointed at the Euros, and another Croatia side with a fairly obvious ceiling. Still, Probierz held on to his job, and after a few qualifying wins even decided to strip Robert Lewandowski of the captain’s armband. The striker responded by publicly refusing to join the national team. After a damaging defeat to Finland, Probierz was dismissed, and now Urban makes his debut as head coach. It remains to be seen whether the internal conflicts have really been resolved. Poland’s attack has looked blunt without Lewandowski, while defensively they remain vulnerable against top-tier opposition.
