Napoli completely collapsed after their previous Serie A title triumph — and that was exactly why Antonio Conte arrived. After that, however, Napoli took out their frustration on US Cremonese with four unanswered goals. Against Como 1907, on the contrary, they failed to score at all, although they also kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw against a direct rival.

Bologna FC 1909 are now simply playing out the remainder of the season. “Rossoblù” spent years as a typical mid-table side, but under Thiago Motta they shocked everyone by finishing fifth in Serie A two seasons ago. The Brazilian coach was later lured away to fail at Juventus FC, and without him Bologna struggled badly in the Champions League while also regressing in Serie A — although they redeemed themselves somewhat by winning the domestic cup. Bologna’s recent away form has been underwhelming, with the team lacking consistency and often struggling to create enough chances in difficult matches. Their overall confidence also appears to have dropped after a series of disappointing league results against direct competitors. That cup triumph secured them a place in the UEFA Europa League instead. There, the Italians actually impressed and even knocked out AS Roma before eventually losing in the quarterfinals to tournament favorites Aston Villa FC. Meanwhile, things have not gone particularly well in Serie A, and by mid-spring they had fallen too far behind the European qualification spots. Recently they lost 0-2 to Roma, and afterward could only manage a dull 0-0 draw against modest Cagliari Calcio.
The clubs have shared two wins each across their last five meetings, including home victories for both sides during 2025. It is hard to believe Bologna will suddenly wake up and seriously challenge such a strong and motivated opponent.
