Moreirense take on the visitors Porto in the round 9 match of Liga Portugal. The match will be played on Monday, October 27th at Parque Joaquim de Almeida Freitas (Moreira de Conegos).
Moreirense have made a decent start for a team of their level. The Green and Whites have been around for quite some time, but only in 2017 did they manage to lift their first-ever trophy — the Portuguese Cup. On the other hand, they only returned to the top flight in 2023 after another spell in the second division. Last season, they finished 10th in the Primeira Liga, a respectable result for a recently promoted side. This campaign, however, they’ve been even more impressive, sitting in the top five after the opening rounds. Their early success was largely due to a favourable schedule and a run of three consecutive victories, but maintaining that momentum has proved challenging. Since late August, Moreirense have alternated between wins and defeats, including a 2-3 loss to Nacional in February. They were also eliminated from the Cup by Fafe, which, while disappointing, might allow them to focus fully on the league. Despite inconsistency, their home performances have been competitive, and they often cause problems for bigger clubs.

Porto finally look worthy of leading the league again. The Dragons remain one of the defining forces in Portuguese football, but for several consecutive seasons they had to settle for third place. Last season, under new club president Villas-Boas, they won only the Super Cup and again fell short of Lisbon’s top two in the league. This time around, things look much brighter under new coach Farioli — Porto have been dominant both domestically and in Europe. Before their recent draw with Benfica, they had been on a winning streak that included a 2-1 victory away to Sporting, as well as strong Europa League wins over Red Bull Salzburg and Crvena Zvezda. However, their European run hit a bump on Thursday when they lost 0-2 to Nottingham Forest, ending that perfect start. Still, in the Primeira Liga, Porto’s form has been consistent, and their defense remains among the most reliable in the competition. They appear motivated and organized, clearly aiming to reclaim the championship this season.
As in most domestic matchups, the Tripeiros hold a dominant record in this fixture. They’ve won seven of the last eight meetings, with their only defeat coming in the Cup last autumn (1-2). The visitors are clear favourites and should be expected to deliver a strong performance. The best option here looks to be a Porto win with a -1.5 goal handicap.
Prediction for the match: Porto to win with -1.5 handicap.
