Moldova take on the visitors Ukraine in a Friendly International match. The match will be played on Tuesday, June 11th at Stadionul Zimbru (Chişinău).
Moldova are still considered underdogs in European football. It’s not without reason that, after losing to Kazakhstan two years ago, they were relegated once again to the weakest division in the Nations League. Even though they won many matches there, they couldn’t clinch the top spot. However, last year was arguably their best ever. They not only secured victories against the Faroe Islands but also sensationally defeated Poland and managed a few draws. They also shared points with the ultimate group leaders, the Czechs and Albanians, and in a friendly match with Austria. In March, they managed a draw against North Macedonia (snatching a 1-1 draw in the 82nd minute with a goal from Damascan) and thrashed the Cayman Islands. In June, they won a shootout against Cyprus with a 3-2 scoreline.

Ukraine focuses on upcoming matches. The "Yellow and Blues" have managed to qualify for their fourth consecutive Euro. But it was a tough road: they couldn’t displace England or Italy from the top spots in last year's group (although they held Italy to a draw in the last round, and, due to this, were edged out on tiebreakers despite having equal points with Rebrov's team). However, they fought successfully in the playoffs in March. Twice they managed to come from behind, scoring two goals to secure a 2-1 win against both Bosnia in Zenica and Iceland in Wrocław. In the summer, as they prepared for the Euro, Mudryk and company celebrated Serhiy Stanislavovych’s 50th birthday with a 0-0 draw against Germany, showcasing their ability to defend strictly and disciplined, while also counter-attacking swiftly. Later, in Warsaw against Poland, an experimental lineup led to a disastrous first half-hour with three goals conceded. Dovbyk scored a consolation goal before halftime, but they ultimately lost 1-3. Clearly, they want to finish their pre-Euro preparations on a better note.
The teams have faced each other three times between 2012 and 2014, during World Cup qualifiers and once in a friendly. Moldova held a 0-0 draw at home but lost both away games. The "Yellow and Blues" are now obliged to pull themselves together and come out motivated for this match. The bet is on them winning with a "-1 goal" handicap.
Prediction for the match: Ukraine to win with -1.0 handicap.
