Millwall vs Watford Prediction 22 September 2025

Millwall take on the visitors Watford in the round 6 match of English Championship. The match will be played on Monday, September 22nd at The Den (London).

Millwall, despite their loud nickname, only briefly appeared in the country’s top division back in the late 1980s. Both before and after that period they mostly floated around one or two levels lower. So it is fair to call them a mid-table Championship team. They had some chances to challenge for Premier League promotion, but ultimately finished eighth, just two points short of the top six with 66 compared to 68. Under Alex Neil they managed to get past Newport and Coventry in the League Cup before facing Crystal Palace. That ended in a draw, but the favorite advanced on penalties. In the Championship their form has been inconsistent, alternating wins and defeats, although they have been picking up points away from home. Last Saturday they drew 1-1 with Charlton, once again failing to get a league victory. Millwall have shown resilience in tough away fixtures, but their inability to string wins together has held them back. Still, their solid defensive record suggests they can be a dangerous opponent when playing at The Den.

Watford risk getting stuck at this level for good. The Hornets are not short of ambition and want, if not to compete for European football, then at least to stay in the Premier League. But in recent years they have not even managed to get promoted. Last season, instead of fighting for a playoff spot, they collected only 57 points and finished as low as 14th, in the bottom half of the table on goal difference. Their new campaign has been unimpressive as well: they were knocked out of the League Cup at home by Norwich in a 1-2 defeat. Earlier they had also lost in the Championship to Charlton. A 2-1 win against QPR was followed by draws with both Swansea and Southampton. In September they went down narrowly 0-1 against Blackburn. Watford’s attack has been inconsistent, with goals coming mostly in bursts rather than steady output. Defensively, they still look vulnerable, especially against teams that press high and force mistakes at the back.

In the last six matches against their neighbors, the Lions have won four, including the most recent clash, suffering only one defeat in that span. The Lions are playing at home and face a favorable opponent based on recent head-to-head results. The bet is on Millwall to claim another victory.

Prediction for the match: Millwall to win.
