Milan take on the visitors Inter in the round 28 match of Italian Serie A. The match will be played on Sunday, March 8th at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro) (Milan).
Milan produced a disappointing result last season, only slightly softened by their victory in the Italian Super Cup last winter. That campaign began under Sergio Conceicao, who had replaced the struggling Paulo Fonseca. But then came an early exit from the Champions League, a modest 8th place in Serie A, and finally a defeat in the cup final. Allegri’s “second debut” was not impressive either, as Milan lost at home to Cremonese. In recent weeks, however, the team has looked much more stable in league matches and has been consistently collecting points. Their performances have become more confident overall, which has helped them stay firmly among the leading sides in the standings. Things also did not go well for the Rossoneri in the cup and the Super Cup — they were eliminated quickly. Yet in Serie A they have secured second place in the current table. Recently they unexpectedly lost to Parma, only their second defeat since the start of the campaign. But in the latest round they predictably and comfortably defeated Cremonese.

Inter must remember the lessons of last season. The Nerazzurri were chasing a treble back then. However, after losing the Italian Super Cup, they also failed the final stretch of the season: they were eliminated in the Coppa Italia semifinals, lost the lead in Serie A, and finally suffered a 0–5 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Recently their results have also been somewhat inconsistent across competitions, with several unexpected setbacks interrupting otherwise solid performances. Even so, they remain one of the strongest teams domestically and continue to maintain a comfortable position at the top of the league standings. Now Cristian Chivu, who replaced Simone Inzaghi, has had his own disappointments — both in his debut tournament at the summer FIFA Club World Cup and in the winter Italian Super Cup. In the Champions League, after reaching the playoffs, the Italians were beaten 1–3 away by Bodo/Glimt. At home against the Norwegians everyone expected revenge, but instead they lost again. In the Coppa Italia semifinal against Como, the first match ended in a goalless draw. The most important thing, however, is that in Serie A they have built a gap over all their pursuers. Genoa also caused no real problems in the latest round.
Interestingly, although the Nerazzurri have generally been stronger in recent years, they have drawn only twice in the last six derbies and lost four times. That includes defeats in both of the most recent head-to-head matches. The nominal visitors are rightly considered the favorites in this matchup. The pick is for them to win, but with extra insurance by applying a draw no bet option.
Prediction for the match: Inter to win with 0.0 handicap.
