Metz take on the visitors Lens in the round 29 match of French Ligue 1. The match will be played on Friday, April 12th at Stade Saint-Symphorien (Metz).
Metz are having a weak season and is at serious risk of not staying in Ligue 1 and returning to the second division at the end of the season. At the moment, the team is positioned in the relegation zone, second from bottom of the table. While there is still time and plenty of matches left, with just three points separating Metz from the playoff zone and five points from safety, there's still no light at the end of the tunnel. Ahead of the match against the reigning vice-champions of the country, Metz comes with a series of three defeats: against Reims (1-2), Monaco (2-5), and Brest (3-4). In 28 rounds of Ligue 1, the team has suffered a whopping 17 defeats.

Metz doesn't hesitate to attack and is absolutely incapable of defending. This is exactly what Lens needs right now (still the reigning vice-champions of the country). Holding off opponents' attacks, luckily not the strongest, and punishing the opponent on counterattacks – this is what the blood and gold know how to do. A draw with Le Havre and defeats to Lille and Nice have already put Frank Haise's proteges six points away from fourth place. Yes, it may no longer be possible for Lens to make it to the Champions League. But why not compete with Nice for fifth place? And they also need to hold onto sixth place, which grants the right to play in the Conference League. After all, Reims, Marseille, and Rennes behind them are not slacking. I believe that the match against one of the league's underdogs, even though it's an away game, is an excellent opportunity for Lens to break their winless streak.
Frank Haise's team should be able to handle the second-to-last team in the championship, even away from home. After all, if you can't beat one of the main underdogs of the league, then who can you beat? While Metz, as a team fighting for survival, will certainly try to grab points, I think they won't succeed. My prediction is an away win.
Prediction for the match: Lens to win.
