Mauritius is not the kind of opponent expected to pull off miracles. Cameroon were the first African team to make a serious impact at the World Cup. Since that famous 1990 quarter-final run, they’ve only missed two global tournaments, but they haven’t reached the knockout stages in recent editions — including in Qatar, where they also failed to escape the group. At the AFCON, after earning bronze in 2021, they were eliminated in the round of 16 two years later.
