Marseille are extremely ambitious, but even more inconsistent. After the failure of 2023/2024, the club made major changes, bringing in Roberto De Zerbi and signing several high-profile players. Their recent form, however, has been disappointing, with the team struggling to maintain consistency in both domestic and European matches. Results have been erratic, and confidence has clearly dropped compared to earlier in the campaign. After the summer break, “Les Phocéens” immediately suffered a scandalous collapse — a heavy defeat to Stade Rennais followed by a dressing room incident. Although things briefly improved, in 2026 they missed out on the Champions League playoffs due to a poor finish in the main round, and domestic setbacks followed. Eventually, De Zerbi left, and under Jean-Louis Gasset Béye (Béye), the struggles continued: elimination from the cup on penalties against Toulouse FC and further defeats in Ligue 1. Only modest FC Metz were beaten, while they again dropped points against FC Lorient.

Nice risk completely failing their season. “Les Aiglons” have shown ambition under their current owners, but results have often fallen short. Only last season did they finally meet expectations by securing 4th place after strong competition. Their recent performances have been inconsistent, with the team alternating between solid displays and disappointing results. They have struggled to find stability, especially in league matches. That finish was enough to reach the Champions League, but they lost twice to SL Benfica in qualification. They also underperformed in the Europa League. On the domestic front, Claude Puel was brought in to stabilize the situation during a downturn. Under him, they have had more success in the cup, reaching the semi-finals and even impressing this week with a confident 2–0 win over RC Strasbourg Alsace. In Ligue 1, however, they are hovering just above the relegation zone, although they managed draws against Le Havre AC and the ambitious LOSC Lille.
In the last seven encounters, both teams have three wins each. There is too much faith in the hosts, who are clearly out of form. It makes sense to take advantage of that and back Nice with a +1.5 goal handicap.
