Manchester United take on the visitors Wolverhampton in the round 33 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Sunday, April 20th at Old Trafford, Machester.
Manchester United by mid-spring were only fighting for something in the Europa League. The Red Devils ended what was otherwise a disappointing last season by winning the FA Cup. On one hand, that undeniable success saved Erik ten Hag’s job in the summer. But the trust placed in him — and in many of the high-profile signings brought in during the transfer window — hasn’t been justified. Their Europa League campaign was one of the few highlights, as United performed well in the group stage and comfortably eliminated Real Sociedad, thrashing them at Old Trafford after a draw in San Sebastián. The tie against Lyon was far more dramatic: they blew a lead in France to draw 2-2, then trailed 2-4 at home in extra time before scoring the winner in the 120+ minute to make it 5-4. Domestically, however, the club fell into deeper disarray under new manager Rúben Amorim, who replaced ten Hag mid-season but hasn’t improved results. United were eliminated from both domestic cups and have slipped further down the Premier League table. Last weekend, they suffered a heavy 1-4 defeat to Newcastle, further highlighting their lack of cohesion and defensive issues.

Ironically, Wolves also turned to a Portuguese coach in 2024, but one far less renowned — Vítor Pereira. He replaced Gary O’Neil in December, who had stepped in just before the start of the previous season after Julen Lopetegui's sudden departure. O’Neil guided the Wanderers to a respectable 14th place with 46 points, but this campaign his team struggled badly from the outset. A shocking 1-2 loss to Championship newcomers Ipswich in December was the final straw. Under Pereira, results picked up immediately, starting with wins over Leicester and Manchester United. Though the form wavered afterward, Wolves pulled away from the relegation zone in the spring. Their 2-1 away win over Ipswich in April stretched the gap to 12 points and widened the distance from other bottom-table sides. Most recently, they looked sharp and clinical in a 4-2 win over Tottenham.
Manchester United had won four in a row before Wolves broke the streak in December with a deserved 2-0 home win over the struggling giants. The bookmakers are expecting a dull match with the hosts on top — we disagree on both counts. Back Wolves to avoid defeat and over 2.5 total goals in this one.
Prediction for the match: Wolverhampton not to lose (X2).
