Manchester City take on the visitors West Ham in the round 38 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Sunday, April 19th at Etihad Stadium (Manchester).
Manchester City are still very strong. A year ago, the Citizens reached their peak. That was when Pep Guardiola secured his first Champions League trophy on English soil (and his first since leaving his native Barcelona). This season, he clearly aimed to win the treble again and came close to achieving it. The current Champions League finalist and favorite advanced past the English side in the quarterfinals, only through penalties, after their opponent had the upper hand in both matches. On the other hand, there was a similar situation against Chelsea in the cup semi-final; Chelsea looked better but failed to convert their chances, while Bernardo Silva scored the only goal towards the end. In the Premier League, the giant performed better, and crucially, both Liverpool and Arsenal stumbled, allowing the reigning champion to take the top spot. There was almost a slip-up mid-week against Tottenham – who nearly unintentionally helped their main rival. However, Ortega, who replaced the injured Ederson during the match, prevented Son from scoring in the final moments.

West Ham initially brought David Moyes back as a stop-gap manager, tasked with fixing the situation left by his predecessor, Pellegrini. Ultimately, the Scotsman delivered possibly his swan song, bringing the ambitious club back to European competitions and even winning the Conference League trophy. However, his results quickly fell short of the expectations set by the club's bosses in the British capital. They actively searched for a replacement, not hiding it much. Last week, it was officially announced that Moyes would leave his post in the summer. It's no surprise that his team significantly lost ground in the spring. While they performed decently in the Europa League, they were knocked out in the quarterfinals by an invincible Bayer. Meanwhile, their Premier League results in 2024 were modest, with one draw and three losses in April and early May. They did manage to beat the newcomer and underdog, Luton, at home 3-1.
Two years ago, in 2022, the Hammers managed to draw against the giant, which had already secured the championship title. But the following three matches all resulted in victories for the Citizens. The Citizens are considered the clear favorites, which is obvious. However, it's important for them to simply win now, regardless of the score, so we expect a pragmatic game from Guardiola and a total under 4.5 goals.
Prediction for the match: Manchester City to win and Under 4.5 scored goals.
