Manchester City take on the visitors Brighton in the round 21 match of English Premier League. The match will be played on Wednesday, January 7th at Etihad Stadium (Manchester).
Manchester City were highly successful under Pep, even reaching Champions League glory and completing a historic treble. However, last season featured serious miscalculations and, as a result, 2025 ended without trophies, with only third place in the Premier League. Everything else brought disappointment: an early Champions League exit despite scraping into the playoffs, defeat in the domestic cup final, and a shocking elimination right at the start of the summer knockout games. Even in the new full season, the team stuttered early on and continued to drop points along the way. Still, they reached the League Cup semifinals, secured a Champions League playoff spot, and closed the gap on leaders Arsenal in the Premier League. After that, though, they slipped back again, drawing matches without scoring against Sunderland and conceding late against Chelsea. In terms of form, Manchester City remain strong overall but have lacked consistency in decisive moments. Recent results show clear improvement compared to the early months, yet dropped points continue to slow their push back to first place.

Brighton are trying to achieve the goals set for last season. The Seagulls had already reached European competition under De Zerbi. By appointing Hürzeler and backing him in the transfer market, the club clearly aimed for similar achievements. Instead, they finished only eighth, which would still have meant Conference League football if Crystal Palace had not unexpectedly won the domestic cup. This season they are clearly trying to surpass their 2024/2025 results, but that is objectively difficult due to extremely strong competition, as well as their own slips and losing streaks. Some of those problems resurfaced already in winter. Only against the struggling newcomers Burnley did they finally manage to secure a long-awaited win. Brighton’s recent form has been uneven, alternating solid performances with frustrating setbacks. While they remain competitive, too many dropped points against mid-table rivals have prevented them from fully joining the fight near the top.
Surprisingly, Albion have avoided defeat against the giant for three matches in a row, recording two wins and a draw. Another slip would be unacceptable for Guardiola’s side. The bet is on the hosts to win with a -1.5 goals handicap.
Prediction for the match: Manchester City to win with -1.5 handicap.
