Malmo vs Copenhagen Prediction 5 August 2025

Malmo take on the visitors Copenhagen in the first leg of UEFA Champions League Qualification round of semifinals. The match will be played on Tuesday, August 5th at Eleda Stadion (Malmö).

Malmö have found their form just in time for the decisive qualifying rounds. The Sky Blues have long been one of Sweden’s top clubs — and they reaffirmed that status by confidently winning the Allsvenskan again in 2024, finishing well ahead of the competition. They also reached the main round of the Europa League, which saw them playing competitive fixtures even during the domestic winter break in January. The 2025 campaign didn’t start smoothly, but a string of victories by mid-summer helped them reduce the gap to league leaders Mjällby — though a sizeable distance remains. Henrik Rydström’s side have also kicked off their Champions League qualification strongly. They comfortably defeated Iberia 1999 with back-to-back 3-1 wins, then knocked out RFS by 4-1 and 1-0 over two legs. The team looks sharper and more cohesive with each passing round.

Copenhagen reached the Champions League knockout stage for only the second time in their history two seasons ago — but that European success came at the cost of domestic dominance. In 2024/2025, they again faced stiff competition from Midtjylland, trailing during the first half of the season. However, they surged back in the spring to reclaim the Superliga title and also lifted the Danish Cup. Jacob Neestrup’s men returned from the summer break with a strong run of domestic results. In Europe, they made short work of their first qualifying opponent, Drita — securing a 2-0 win at Parken thanks to two second-half penalties converted by substitute Mattsson. In the away leg, they capitalised on an early red card and held on to a 1-0 victory, with Cornelius netting the decisive goal before halftime.

The Danes edged a narrow friendly win back in early 2016. Three years later, in the Europa League, Malmö earned a draw at home before winning the away leg. This is a very even tie between two seasoned European sides. Given the past encounters and both teams’ solid defensive structure, backing under 2.5 total goals looks like a smart choice.

Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
