Mali U20 take on the visitors Panama U20 in Maurice Revello Tournament. The match will be played on Tuesday, June 3rd at Stade Parsemain (Fos-sur-Mer).
Mali U-20 are usually a solid opponent, but this generation looks less convincing. The Young Eagles have featured in the U-20 World Cup seven times, claiming bronze medals on two occasions. Their last appearance came in 2019 in Poland, where they reached the quarterfinals. However, Mali have now failed to qualify for the tournament in back-to-back cycles, and will miss the upcoming edition in Uruguay. They also failed to secure a spot at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, finishing third in their qualification group behind Senegal and Gambia, with Mauritania having been disqualified in advance. A revamped U-20 squad was assembled in the aftermath, but since then they have only managed a couple of friendly matches, both played back in 2024.

Panama U-20 are using the French tournament as a warm-up for their primary objective — the U-20 World Cup in Uruguay. This will be their seventh appearance at the global stage, and they reached the quarterfinals for the first time back in 2019. Although they missed the following tournament, they bounced back at last year’s CONCACAF Championship. Panama collected 7 points in the group stage — notably holding Mexico — and then edged out Canada in extra time. They even gave the United States a scare in the semifinals, losing only 1-2 after a late goal from Reims. That semifinal berth, however, was enough to secure World Cup qualification.
These teams previously met at the 2019 U-20 World Cup, playing to a 1-1 draw. Panama appear to be more cohesive and better prepared this time. Expect Los Canaleros to edge out a win.
Prediction for the match: Pnama U20 to win.
