Levante take on the visitors Osasuna in the round 35 match of Spanish LaLiga. The match will be played on Friday, May 8th at Estadi Ciutat de València (Valencia).
Levante even have a successful, though one-time, history in European competitions. Much more often, however, they have bounced between divisions, and before returning to La Liga last season, they had spent three consecutive years in the Segunda División. Once they earned promotion back to the top flight, it looked like their stay would last only a single season. Things started to improve after Luís Castro took over as head coach. Levante have shown much more resilience since late February, losing only once in that stretch before facing Villarreal. Their home performances have also become far more competitive, especially against teams fighting for European qualification spots. Since the end of February, the underdogs have practically stopped losing — suffering only an away defeat to Real Sociedad. Moreover, they picked up several victories, including against European hopefuls Getafe CF, before beating direct rivals Sevilla FC. Still, they failed to score against crisis-hit RCD Espanyol, settling for a goalless draw. That was followed by a fairly expected defeat to third-placed Villarreal CF. However, the 1-5 collapse turned out to be particularly painful.

CA Osasuna are trying to achieve what they narrowly missed last year. “The Pamplona side” were themselves once a classic elevator team between divisions. Jagoba Arrasate originally took charge when the club was still in the Segunda División and eventually led them all the way to a debut appearance in the UEFA Europa Conference League. That campaign proved unsuccessful, and after another disappointing season Arrasate departed as well. His successor, Vicente Moreno, only lost out on 8th place to Rayo Vallecano on tiebreakers in 2024/2025. Osasuna have looked much more balanced offensively in recent weeks, especially in matches against mid-table opponents. Even when results have been inconsistent, the team have continued to create chances and remain dangerous on the counterattack. It seemed unlikely that the current coach, Lisci, could repeat that achievement, but throughout the season “Los Rojillos” gradually gained momentum, although occasional setbacks still occurred. Recently, they managed to beat only struggling Sevilla FC. After that came a defeat, but it was against champions FC Barcelona, and even then only narrowly by a 1-2 scoreline.
In the last four meetings, the Pamplona side won three times. The only draw came because they simply failed to score. The teams are rightly considered evenly matched here. Back both teams to score.
