Lens take on the visitors Toulouse in the semifinal match of Coupe de France. The match will be played on Tuesday, April 21st at Stade Bollaert-Delelis (Lens).
Lens will be able to consider this season a success in any case. “Les Sang et Or” spent a long time in the second division, but after returning to Ligue 1, they even managed to finish 2nd and then performed quite well in the UEFA Champions League. Last season, however, was disappointing, ending only in 8th place. To improve the situation, they brought in Pierre Sage, who had recently impressed with Olympique Lyonnais. Their recent form shows a team capable of competing at a high level, especially in matches against direct rivals. At the same time, they have occasionally struggled with consistency, dropping points in key fixtures. Under the new coach, they have been extracting the maximum — even more at times — staying level with Paris Saint-Germain until spring and pulling clear of the rest. Recently, though, there have been slip-ups, including a heavy 0–3 defeat to Lille OSC. In the latest round, they managed to beat Toulouse FC in an entertaining 3–2 match.

Toulouse not long ago won the domestic cup — the first major trophy in the club’s history. That success allowed them to play in the UEFA Europa League, where they performed respectably. Their recent form, however, has been inconsistent, with the team struggling to string together positive results. They often look competitive but lack the stability needed to climb higher in the standings. In Ligue 1, under Carles Martínez Novell, they have remained a mid-table side, and this season is no different — results are decent but not outstanding, with as many defeats as wins. Currently, they are going through a slump, failing to take any points against PSG, Lille, and Lens. At the same time, in the cup they have progressed through several rounds, including eliminating the strong and ambitious Olympique de Marseille — twice coming from behind away and eventually winning on penalties.
“The Blood and Gold” had a run of six consecutive wins, but in 2025 they managed only one point from two matches. However, in January they secured a convincing 3–0 away victory, and even in a more difficult spring encounter, they still managed to collect another three points. It is hard to believe that the balance of power in this matchup will change significantly in such a short time. Lens look stronger overall and should be able to secure another win here.
Prediction for the match: Lens to win.
