Leganes take on the visitors Deportivo in the round 3 match of Spanish LaLiga2. The match will be played on Monday, September 1st at Estadio Municipal de Butarque (Leganes).
Leganes wants to climb back up again. The “Cucumber Growers” have periodically managed to reach La Liga. Last season, they once again played at that level. They even showed fairly solid results, finishing with 40 points… but still in 18th place, which meant relegation. Although this was a very painful failure, the main task now is to avoid getting stuck at a lower tier. So far, however, the start cannot be described as promising: in the opening round away to Huesca, they took the lead but conceded late, finishing only 1-1. A few days later, hosting Cadiz, the score and result were repeated. After that, they had over a week to prepare for the current round. Leganes still struggles with consistency in converting advantages into victories, and this weakness is evident in their inability to secure three points. The squad, however, remains competitive on paper and has players capable of making the difference at this level.

Deportivo were one of the leaders of Spanish football at the start of the century and even once lifted the La Liga trophy. But after that, results kept deteriorating, eventually leading to relegation all the way down to the third division. Only last year did they manage to climb back at least into the Segunda. There, the popular club performed fairly well, confidently securing their spot at this level — in fact, they even allowed their leader, Lucas Pérez, to leave for the Netherlands midway through the season. Still, they managed to collect a respectable 53 points, which gave them a comfortable 15th-place finish. After the summer break, Deportivo began with an away win over ambitious and strong Granada. Then at home against Burgos, there were no goals at all — in La Coruña, the hosts could neither score nor concede, finishing in a dull 0-0 draw. Deportivo’s defensive discipline looks much improved, and the team is trying to establish itself as hard to beat. However, their attack remains inconsistent, which could limit their ambitions this season.
The clubs only faced each other between 2016 and 2018. The first two matches brought victories for the Pepineros, then Super Depor managed a win, and finally, they ended with their first draw. The “Cucumber Growers,” who are playing at home, are given the advantage in the odds. However, the match is unlikely to be entertaining — the best bet looks to be on “total under 2.5 goals.”
Prediction for the match: Under 2.5 scored goals.
